Christmas came early in the Thomas household, in the size, shape and form of the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM. Unfortunately santa didn’t leave it under my tree and I had to buy it myself. All the same, I’m very happy with my new toy. Well with the initial feel of the lens anyway. The weathers not been kind enough in sunny old blight to actually have had much time to test it. Hopefully the Christmas period well spoil me with some stunning snow covered winter scenes.
I’ve been researching ultra wide angle lens for some time now, to aid me in my quest for taking my landscape and cityscape portfolio to the next level. After much deliberation between Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM (£509) and the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 LII USM (£1039) I decided to go with the more expensive latter option, mainly do to the fact I will be quite often using the lens for cityscapes at night and the f/2.8 lets more light in making it better in low light situations
Just a quick note for anyone interested in buying one of the above lenses, I purchased my from DigitalRev, which is where I now buy all my camera equipment now. Not only because of their cheap prices (cheaper than amazon etc) but for their first class service. I purchased this lens on a friday lunch time and it was with me by 2.30pm on the monday. So with all that said I think they deserve a mention.
I will be doing a full review in the not so distant future for those of you interested or actively looking at purchasing an ultra wide angle lens. So make sure you check back for that.
Right time to get testing my latest acquisition.
